What is the Heartland Institute?
'Our Mission. To discover, develop, and promote free-market solutions to social and economic problems.'
From wikipedia
‘The Heartland Institute is an American conservative and libertarian public policy think tank known for its rejection of both the scientific consensus on climate change and the negative health impacts of smoking.
Founded in 1984, it worked with tobacco company Philip Morris throughout the 1990s to attempt to discredit the health risks of secondhand smoke and lobby against smoking bans.Since the 2000s, the Heartland Institute has been a leading promoter of climate change denial.’
Donors to the institute include the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation, Microsoft, General Motors, Comcast, Reynolds American, Philip Morris, Amgen, Bayer, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer and Eli Lilly, liquor companies, and an anonymous donor who had given $13 million over the past five years.
Cue this piece by Justin Haskins in The Hill from in December 2020;
‘In June, elites at important international institutions such as the World Economic Forum and the United Nations launched a far-reaching campaign to “reset” the global economy.
The plan involves dramatically increasing the power of government through expansive new social programs like the Green New Deal and using vast regulatory schemes and government programs to coerce corporations into supporting left-wing causes.
As World Economic Forum (WEF) head ( the creator of this vanity project) Klaus Schwab wrote back in June, “the world must act jointly and swiftly to revamp all aspects of our societies and economies, from education to social contracts and working conditions. Every country, from the United States to China, must participate, and every industry, from oil and gas to tech, must be transformed (He’s clearly a megalomaniacal mad man).
The two justifications for the proposal, which has been aptly named by its supporters the “Great Reset,” are the COVID-19 pandemic (the short-term justification) and the so-called “climate crisis” caused by global warming (the long-term justification).
Errr and who wrote this piece?
‘Justin Haskins is the editorial director of the Heartland Institute.’
So industry funded climate deniers, whose mission is to develop free markets reported on a reset agenda including the Green New Deal and greater governmental restrictions, encompassing the whole world from America to China that was based on the ‘so-called’ ‘climate crisis’. What does this tell us? Would industry benefit from casting doubt on climate change by inventing an evil control agenda of people who have invented climate change?
D’ah! Yes.
The Heartland institute is only one of the foundations in the US Climate Change Counter Movement funded by wealthy families.
Top grant makers to CCCM organizations and below top recipients of the CCCM funds. The funding has been steadily increasing up to 2018 and presumably is continuing to do so.
UK politicians and previously greenwashed statements by industry have done a U turn. ‘Shell is the latest fossil fuel company to scale back on its climate change pledges in order to increase payouts to shareholders. The oil and gas giant announced yesterday that it is dropping plans to cut oil production each year for the rest of the decade.
Shell now says that production will remain stable until 2030, and it will invest $40 billion (€36.7 bn) in oil and gas production between 2023 and 2035. That’s compared to between $10bn (€9bn) and $15bn (€13.7bn) in ‘low-carbon’ products like biofuels, hydrogen and carbon capture and storage.’ The goal of CCCM and controlling oil prices is not just about the money, it’s also to maintain US hegemony.
Others embrace climate change but use it for greater political, national and military control. Also from 2020 in MPN John Kerry’s real role as Climate tsar was said to be;
‘Kerry will have three priorities in his role as President Biden’s right-hand man. What were those three priorities? Making sure people in the Global South could eat and have access to safe drinking water? Reparations? Disaster relief or response teams? Cutting back on fossil fuel use? Indeed not. For the American Security Project (of which John Kerry is a founding member), the primary objectives were:
A huge rebuilding of the United States’ military bases (which may be neutralised by rising sea levels)
Countering China in the Pacific (who are trying to tackle climate change)
Preparing for a war with Russia in the newly-melted Arctic (there’s fossil fuels under there!).
‘What will the designation of the climate crisis as a “national security threat” entail domestically? Last year, the ASP wrote that “Given that climate change will force more families to migrate, funding for border security should include improving facilities for holding and transporting migrants.” In other words, an expansion of the militarized border and network of detention centers, often condemned as “concentration camps.”
The Pentagon is the largest single polluter in the world, and the U.S. has historically insisted on exempting the military from any climate treaties. Just one B-52 bomber consumes as much fuel in an hour as an average car driver uses in seven years. As the Institute for Policy Studies wrote, “militarism and climate justice are fundamentally at odds” while “climate change and border militarization are inextricably linked.”
While many activists may have taken heart at Kerry’s tough words, it is doubtful whether occupying Norway or expanding the network of Immigration and Customs Enforcement camps was exactly what they had in mind when they said they wanted the government to act on climate change.’
In plain sight; the industry is denying climate change and telling us that it is a hoax to bring in left wing, anti-prosperity policies and greater governmental control. IT IS A CON. Remember; they want to discover, develop and promote free-market solutions.
