What is it?
The European Green Deal sets out to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Just like Net Zero by 2030; this is a a scam for industry to push climate action into the future and do nothing now. It involves planting 3 billion trees, protecting biodiversity and regional development.
None of the policies will keep the planet within 1.5 degrees of warming. This is not because the UK and EU are unilaterally attempting a green transition; it’s that the policies proposed are not radical enough. The changes to society that would be required involve a redistribution of wealth and energy use away from the 1%.
How is it being implemented?
The legal enforcement of these insufficient policies goes something like this;
‘Although greenhouse gas emissions continue to fall and there are encouraging signs of action on the ground, the Commission’s assessment is that current progress towards the EU’s climate neutrality objective appears to be insufficient. Action is most needed in areas which still require significant reductions in emissions (e.g. buildings, transport), where progress is too slow (e.g. agriculture), or where, in recent years, there has been a deteriorating trend, as is the case for the carbon sink (e.g. land use, land-use change, and forestry).
The European Union has made broad progress on adaptation to climate change, in particular through the ongoing implementation of the EU Adaptation Strategy. However, progress has been uneven across areas.
The assessment of progress on adaptation at the national level shows that Member States need to take significantly more action to adapt to climate change – for instance, on governance, funding, risk assessments, nature-based solutions, as well as monitoring, reporting and evaluation in order to reduce their social and economic vulnerabilities to the intensifying climate-related risks.
Based on the assessment, the Commission issued recommendations to Member States under the European Climate Law in December 2023.’
Oh, how very scary and draconian! A list of recommendations.
Why does everyone think it’s evil?
D’ah. Even this policy, which isn’t being enforced and is thus allowing increased growth in fossil fuels and animal ag, is met with resistance to protect industry’s profits and right to pollute with impunity. Renewables are cheaper and allow greater autonomy; which is why the hegemonic US opposes them.
How does everyone think it’s evil?
From industry funded, professional deniers of the, according to them, ‘so-called’ climate crisis; the right wing, free market protectors the Heartland Group writing in The Hill in December 2020;
‘In June 2020, elites at important international institutions such as the World Economic Forum and the United Nations launched a far-reaching campaign to “reset” the global economy.
The plan involves dramatically increasing the power of government through expansive new social programs like the Green New Deal and using vast regulatory schemes and government programs to coerce corporations into supporting left-wing causes.’

Maybe the picked the wrong color? The various propaganda machines if so inclined could get people to hate their own mothers. Not its not a full proof system so they would probably produce some people that hate their fathers as well...out of some reflexive contrarian tendencies they'd trigger, but the point is the hate. Lots of hate.
Absurd analysis, Jo. CO2 is plant food. We are "carbon based entities." CO2 is a trace gas. Doesn't compare to a greenhouse! Europe has made "broad progress" in starving themselves of energy, just as America is doing.
