I really want to be heartened by the shift you suggest is happening Jo. Maybe I'm in a bubble here in the grand ol' US of A but I don't see it. So many people I know, who I believed were thoughtful intelligent beings are NOT! The pro-Israel force is strong. The environmental changes needed are for others, not us. Dietary habits are horrendous as obesity skyrockets. Maybe we'll be left behind as the majority of the world's citizens start to change. I hope that's enough. But the control of media and our hegemonic hold on power through our military will be a tough hurdle for the rest of the world to overcome. I just watched Matt Taibbi discuss how the censorship industrial complex REALLY believe that they need to shut down dissent. We must be compliant. Follow the dictates of our gubmint and be good little consumers, ignoring the horrors across the globe. The holiday season is upon us and the consuming insanity has started once again. Bah Humbug!
and i really think the military approach will fail, neither the US nor NATO can make enough weapons nor ammunition fast enough and the Zionists in the US and UK cheering it on won't be forgotten, though the world majority will begin to careless what US media , industry or politcians allows citizens to say or not say.
Yes the number one consumers and polluters in the world in the States are addicts for sure. Bah Humbug indeed; though they literally won't be able to guzzle and fatten themselves so much for much longer, either cos of the economy or climate change or both
Here's where I worry Jo. RFK Jr. states correctly that over 50% of Americans can't put their hands on $1,000 in an emergency. But, here in Boulder, Co. and Miami where my family lives and I visit, the stores and restaurants are packed. Even if only 30-40% of my fellow Americans consume with abandon, that's enough to continue on their path to destruction of our planet. And that's who the media, who are part of that 30%, and the politicians cater to. For the other 70%, it's guns, gays and god. It's a strategy that's been employed since Reagan and Falwell. Their formula works, unfortunately. The Hunger Games is looking more and more like a work of prophecy not fiction.
Boulder County Colorado couldn't sound more American! I have never visited your great country. And never even heard of Falwell.
Yeah, i'm not saying it's not going to be extremely uncomfortable for many Americans as well as many affected by climate change all over the world. But I'm hopeful that US hegemony isn't going to last much longer and less wars will certainly not be a bad thing.
Perhaps I'm in a cosmopolitan London bubble-it's certainly not guns, gays and god here. I'm not sure how many are aware of how much we're being screwed by the US and how stupid to fund wars instead of public services. But the genocide in Gaza is doing a lot to wake people up to the garbage media and to idiot politicians trying to ban chants.
You should visit Jo. It's beautiful. The mountains, 56 of them soar over 14,000 feet. But.....Boulder is NOT America. It's a college town (CU) and home to NOAA, NIST and NTIA. So highly educated and a lot of gov't money pours into our economy. My wife works for NOAA so we're two of the lucky ones. If you drive a short distance away from the Front Range (greater Denver/Boulder area), you find a very different America. In fact, two different worlds. We are a microcosm of the two Americas here in Colorado. Look up Jerry Falwell. He, along with Pat Robertson and Ralph Reed started the "moral majority". They're strategy from the beginning was to mobilize republicans to vote R, against their own economic interests by catering to their fears. Gays are indoctrinating our children. The gov't is coming for your guns and all Democrats are atheists. There is a small kernel of truth there, but not enough to really affect their lives in any meaningful way. Instead, they destroyed the job base and public services behind their backs. The two parties are evil, but in different ways. We must find a third way. But how, I don't know. It may take a generation, if we last that long.
