Thank you for paying attention and making me look this up-Here is the video, he quotes 'there is no universal definition of isolation accepted in virology'- not even in his own text book!He then goes on to authoritatively say " An isolate is a virus that we have isolated from an infected host.. you grow virus in culture and then you have an isolate "!! He is basically saying an isolate is any sample that they have taken from a sick person and added to a dish. He then admits that the genomes only exist in computers and they haven't actually got any isolates in dishes. They can actually no idea where the sequences came from at all.
Thanks for bringing that one with Elena back to light. It's likely the best elucidation of the problem ever put together. The interviewer is excellent, the editing precise.
