My wife, who works for NOAA just sent me an article they put out about the super La Nina we just experienced in 2021-2023. We are still learning the complexities of ocean temperatures and wind currents related to it and how it affects our climate. The oceans are holding much of the heat we are creating with greenhouse gases. The Antarctic is a strong indication of what's happening UNDER the surface. https://research.noaa.gov/2023/11/07/recent-triple-dip-la-nina-upends-current-understanding-of-enso/

Thank you David, this is brilliant. Climate deniers can't deny it's happening anymore, now they say scientists don't understand exactly why it's rising so rapidly therefore it can't be greenhouse gases. Dah!

Yes, complexity IS science. But climate deniers, like Covid evangelists can't handle the uncertainties. So they reject any hypotheses that don't comport with the beliefs. Beliefs that keep them secure in their bubbles and able to avoid making changes to their comfortable lifestyles. Fauci is science dontcha' know!

Fluctuations you say? You want to put your own definition on the meaning, in the context of climate. That's a subjective POV. Fluctuations AND trends are indicative of something. What that is and how important they are are matters for debate. You can throw up strawmen or strawwomen like Greta. But dismissing the data out of hand and not debating it are not, IMO helpful. But if it helps you sleep at night and continuing to do nothing, I guess that's a good strategy. Not for me though.

Platos cave is a great book. But not everything is shadows on a wall. If that were true, we'd all be swimming in a sea of chaos. There is a reality that we can connect to that has real implications for our survival on this planet. To cast it all aside is to be a nihilist. I for one am not. What say you One Existence?

I appreciate the willingness to acknowledge that debate is important. But referencing one data point, and using that as a broad brush to paint all climate scientists as part of the “madness crowd” is not productive. My wife works with many climate scientists, some of whom I know. Many of them are hard-working, honest people. You should get to know some of them. They are not worshiping at the devil’s knee. 🤓

The mere act of writing/typing your words on your device and having them transmitted to me is a result of linear thinking and the discipline of science.
